महागौरीची रात्र — दुर्गाष्टमी याच रूपाची. महाराष्ट्रात बहुतेक ठिकाणी अष्टमी हा नऊ दिवसांतला सर्वांत मोठा दिवस, आणि जिथे कन्यापूजनाची पद्धत आहे तिथे अष्टमीला किंवा नवमीला लहान मुलींचा मान केला जातो.

Mahagauri’s night, the one Durga Ashtami belongs to. In much of Maharashtra Ashtami is the biggest day of the nine, and where kanya pujan is kept, young girls are honoured and fed on Ashtami or Navami.
