01 / 07The change

Vargani has moved to UPI. The हिशोब hasn’t.

Devotees pay on different phones, collectors still carry cash and a paper pavati book, and the accounts are written up days after visarjan. utsavmandal puts the pavati book, the expense register and the cash tally on every committee phone — free.

02 / 07What the old way costs

The paper book costs more than it looks

An open account book, loose pavati slips, a calculator and a cash envelope marked खर्ची ₹15,000
How most mandals keep the हिशोब today
  • A pavati book goes missing

and with it, who gave what. Nobody can print it again.

  • Cash stays with collectors

for days after visarjan, and nobody is quite sure how much.

  • “Where did the money go?”

gets asked at the annual meeting, and the answer is a bag of bills.

Mandals that collect vargani are also expected to keep numbered receipts, a bill for every expense and audited accounts for the Charity Commissioner. Keeping them from the first day is far easier than rebuilding them later.

03 / 07What good looks like

The हिशोब is ready the day after visarjan

The treasurer sees the whole picture on any day, without calling anyone.

  • Every rupee has a numbered pavati
  • Every expense has its bill
  • The balance, and the cash with each collector, at a glance

04 / 07The tools

Four tools, on the phones you already have

Pavati book

Name, amount, cash or UPI — tap Issue. A numbered pavati is made, and the thank-you goes out on WhatsApp.

06 / 07Trust

Built so nobody has to take anyone’s word for it

  • No commission, ever

Devotees pay straight into your mandal’s own UPI. utsavmandal never receives, holds or takes a cut of the money.

  • Nothing is ever deleted

A wrong pavati or expense is cancelled with a reason and stays in the book. Expenses lock after 24 hours.

  • Each person sees their part

Collectors see only their own receipts. The treasurer and owner see everything.

  • Public only if you choose

Show devotees where the money went — totals and categories only, never a donor’s name.

  • Free

The pavati book, accounts, team and Excel export cost nothing. You pay only to claim your mandal’s name as its web address.

07 / 07Questions

Questions committees ask

Do you take a cut of our vargani?

No. Devotees pay straight into your mandal’s own UPI IDs — up to ten organisers’ — and utsavmandal never touches the money. The tools are free.

What if a collector writes a pavati wrong?

The treasurer cancels it with a reason. It stays in the book marked cancelled; nothing is ever deleted.

Does it file our accounts with the Charity Commissioner?

No. It keeps numbered receipts and a bill for every expense, and gives you Excel for your auditor. The audited statement and the filing stay with your committee.

Do we have to install an app?

No. It opens in the phone’s browser. The dashboard is in English; your page, pavatis and thank-you messages can be in Marathi or Hindi.
