About the mandal
Maharashtra Mandal, Kolkata's Marathi community body, holds one of the city's older continuous Ganesh celebrations at Maharashtra Niwas on Hazra Road. The Mandal was founded in 1924, and CultureToday dates the celebration to about then. The festival includes kirtan, bhajans, drama and music, and the Mandal promotes Marathi language and culture through the year.
