Khuni Ganpati

Khuni Ganpati is Dhule's manacha Ganpati; its public festival was started in 1895 by Khambete Guruji under Tilak's inspiration. The name recalls deaths in police firing during a historic immersion procession near the old Jama Masjid, and sources differ on the year and the number of deaths. Today Muslim residents welcome the procession with flowers, and the idol is carried in a palanquin with traditional tal-mridung instead of a band or DJ.
