Fort Vibhag Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal says it was started in 1956 by activists of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement; some sources give 1955 or 1982. Its pandal on Mint Road is raised about 12 ft above the road so that traffic can pass beneath, and political banners are not allowed. The 9-ft idol keeps the same form every year, while its throne and setting change. According to Mumbai Live, the mandal donates to old-age homes, orphanages and flood relief.
