Bhau Rangari Ganpati

The Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Trust says its Ganeshotsav, started in 1892 by the royal physician and freedom fighter Bhausaheb Laxman Javale (Bhausaheb Rangari), was India's first public Ganeshotsav; other accounts date the first public Ganeshotsav to Tilak in 1893. His wada was a meeting place for independence activists. The idol is unusual: a standing Ganesha slaying a demon, read as a symbol of the struggle against British rule. The trust prefers dhol-tasha to electronic music and avoids synthetic colours.
